Clach Shomarlie (The Stone of Council)

According to tradition the Clach Shomairle (‘Stone of Council’) used to mark a site where the Camerons of Glen Nevis had the victory over an unknown enemy, though it has been moved in more recent times. Legend states that it would revolve on its axis three times on a certain day each year, and those present at such a time could have the answers to three questions asked of it. More commonly known as the ‘Wishing Stone’, children nowadays are told that if you run around the stone anti-clockwise three times then any wish you make will be granted. A walk from the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre will take you to the stone if you want to try it for yourself.
