This island of Isay and a gruesome deed

The now uninhabited island of Isay was the scene for one of the most gruesome deeds in clan history. The small, green island lies off the coast of the Isle of Skye between Loch Dunvegan and Loch Bay, Waternish.

In the 16th Century the island was owned Roderick MacLeod of Lewis. As was becoming of a man of his status, he invited his powerful land-owning relations to a great banquet. He promised them that if they came, they would hear news that would be to their advantage. He invited them one by one to meet with him in private. On doing this, he proceeded to stab each one to death.

This eliminated much of the competition to allow his family would inherit the island of Raasay and other stretches of lands off the mainland of Scotland.
