There was a family in Aird and they had a house free of rent on one condition: that they supplied fish for the castle at Armadale every week. Of course, fish was much more plentiful in those days. They had to go fishing and walk around 4 miles to deliver the fish and then come home. For a good part of the year, they had to do that daily.
As told by Charlie MacGillivray, resident of Aird of Sleat, Skye
