Tex Geddes and his wife Jeanne purchased Soay in 1952. My grandfather had spent a few years working as a cowboy in Canada when he was younger. When Tex was living in Soay, he would help Tex drive the cows out from Glenbrittle over to Soay for grazing. He’d swim them across the water or go out and chase all the cows out. This is similar to the tradition that still goes on in Staffin, where they move the cows over to the island of Stenscholl every year.
